About the Project
Royal Mail, through their fire and security contractor RDS Fire, required a high-performance networking solution to support a newly installed CCTV system at one of their Nottingham facilities. The site’s layout posed a challenge due to the extended distances between camera locations, which exceeded the limits of traditional copper cabling and risked performance issues.
Our Solution
Varciti was appointed to design and install a fibre optic backbone to link the CCTV system across the entire site. Fibre was selected specifically for its superior range, speed, and immunity to electrical interference—making it ideal for large-scale or industrial environments like this one.
Scope of Work:
- Site Survey & Planning:
Our team conducted a full site assessment to map out cable runs, routing paths, and required connection points between CCTV endpoints and the central recording and monitoring system.
- Fibre Optic Installation:
A single-mode fibre optic backbone was installed across key zones of the facility. The backbone connected remote camera locations back to the central communications cabinet, ensuring consistent signal strength and image quality regardless of distance.
- Terminations & Media Converters:
Fibre terminations were completed with precision, and media converters were installed where required to interface fibre with standard IP CCTV hardware.
- Testing & Validation:
All fibre links were tested using industry-standard tools to verify performance, attenuation, and reliability before final handover.
