• Client:

    The Family Pharmacy

  • Location:

    Nottingham

  • Date:

    2025

Overview

As part of its expansion, The Family Pharmacy acquired a second building adjacent to its main premises. To maintain operational efficiency and ensure seamless digital connectivity across both locations, the business required the new premises to be linked to the existing network infrastructure.

Project Objectives

  • Extend the network to cover both the original and newly acquired building.
  • Enable wireless access in the new building as part of day-to-day operations.
  • Prepare the infrastructure for future IT growth and integration.
  • Ensure reliability and security of the connection between the two buildings.

Challenges

  • Physical separation between buildings required a robust and secure method of linking the networks.
  • Maintaining a single, unified network environment for smooth access to resources and systems.
  • Ensuring the installation was discreet and durable given the external environment.

Our Solution

To deliver a stable and scalable connection, we implemented the following:

  1. External Copper Cable Installation
We installed a durable external-grade copper network cable between the two buildings, ensuring a stable, hard-wired connection resistant to weather and interference.

  2. New Switch Gear Deployment
High-performance switch gear was installed to manage traffic between buildings and ensure low-latency communication across the network.

  3. Unified Network Configuration
Both buildings were integrated onto the same local network, enabling seamless access to shared systems, printers, and servers from either location.

  4. Wireless Access Point Setup
With the network extended, we installed wireless access points in the new building, providing staff with secure and reliable Wi-Fi coverage.

  5. Future-Proofing Infrastructure
Additional data cabling was pre-installed to support any future growth, including more workstations, devices, or surveillance systems.

Results & Benefits

Unified Network – Both buildings now operate on a single, seamless network, simplifying IT operations and improving user access.

Reliable Connectivity – A stable, hard-wired link ensures consistent performance without relying on Wi-Fi bridging or third-party networks.

Wireless Access Enabled – Staff in the new building now enjoy fast, secure wireless connectivity.

Scalable Infrastructure – The project not only met current needs but also set the foundation for future IT expansion.
